#15 - #17 Tom, Field , &
Willey June 02, 2012
06/02/2012 (Saturday)
. Not really planned, didn’t have my GPS.
Lost trail for 15-20 minutes on a river crossing, bushwacked until I crossed it. Left parking spot at Crawford pass TH at 0515
actually on trail 530 -1440 . Started to
sleep at Crawford Path Trail-head the night before but was kicked out by WMNF
police who was nice enough to direct me to cherry hill campsites (free).
Weather was overcast when I started but started to drizzle with heavy rain when
I bagged Tom (0800). Drizzle and rain continued the rest of the hike with high
winds. Fast hike for me to Tom
(0800), Field (0900), Willy (1015) back to Field (1130) but hike down from
Field (Avalon path) was slow and painful. Both knees went as soon as I started
down and continually got worse. I was also drenched and cold, even though I had
dry clothes and another jacket in the pack (duh). I Didn’t bring the poncho which did not work out
above the tree line the week before on Adams but would have been good here below the treeline. The 3 hours down from Field was probably the
most painful time I have ever had for that much time (knee pain). When I got back to the truck I couldn’t stop
shivering for at least 15 minutes. Even
after changing to dry clothes. I probably was on the verge of hypothermia. I need to get a good set of rain wear and have the sense to change clothes when needed.
Pictures: TBD - I cant seem to find them right now (I may not have taken any).
